Hair: Untold Stories

Hair: Untold Stories explored hair culturally, politically and as a recyclable material. Displays included a dress and shoes made of hair; hair jewellery; a hair-product shop, co-curated with artist Korantema Anyimadu; and the installation of a large wig by Issac Olvera on a pole outside the museum.
This was a touring exhibition and pilot project for MAGNET (the Museums and Galleries Network for Exhibition Touring) that exhibited firstly at the Horniman Museum, before going on to galleries in Sheffield and Scotland. The displays comprised of artefacts from the Horniman’s collections alongside artist displays. Built on a modest budget, the exhibition was designed to be flexible to allow the exhibition configuration to adapt to suit smaller and larger venues. All setworks, furniture and graphics were designed to be reusable and fabricated to allow easy install and dismantling for a small team and transported in one truck.
