Railway Firsts
National Railway Museum, York | 2025
To mark the 50th anniversary of the National Railway Museum, we were invited to design Railway Firsts, a series of dynamic pop-up installations highlighting stories of innovations and breakthroughs on the railway. Stories included the first female train driver, the first railway tunnel and the first onboard loo.
Onto existing modular display systems we added a set of tall, gestural sculptural forms that expressed the surprise of the new. Drawing on the language of train signals and using a collaged approach to imagery, the displays act as curiosity-provoking beacons amongst the trains.
