Adnams Visitor Centre
Adnams Brewery, Southwold | 2017
Adnams, brewer of fine beers such as Ghost Ship and Broadside, asked us to transform a disused office building at their brewery on the Suffolk coast at Southwold, into the Welcome and Introduction centre for visitors touring their Brewery and Distillery.
We hung a large illuminated Adnams logo in the main space to guide visitors into the visitor centre. Along the side of the room, memorabilia is organised along a timeline of key events in Adnams’ history. Some of the more surprising stories take three-dimensional form in the space: a life-size pink pig and an electric-blue 11ft crocodile. Visitors can have their photo taken behind an over-sized beer bottle. At the back of the space, a large diagram explains the processes of making beer and spirits from grain through to finished product. The graphics are interspersed with jars of ingredients for visitors to smell and touch. The graphics then extend into the Brewery and Distillery tour as way-finding and signage, labelling the significant stages of the beer and spirits process. Upstairs on the Mezzanine, we created a flexible space that can be used for temporary displays of local artists or for informal meetings or just hanging out.
